How to Spot a Solana Rug Pull Before It Happens

By Alphacino Editorial Team ·

Quick Take

Most Solana rugs telegraph themselves on-chain long before the chart collapses, if you know where to look.

Rug pulls are the tax degens pay for not doing homework. The good news: on Solana, almost every rug leaves fingerprints on-chain before the dev hits the exit button. Spend sixty seconds checking the basics and you will dodge most of the carnage.

Start with authorities. If a token's mint authority is still active, the creator can print new supply whenever they want and dump it on you. If freeze authority is active, they can lock your tokens so you literally cannot sell. Legit launches, including everything that comes through pump.fun, have both revoked. Any explorer or scanner will show this instantly.

Next, look at holders and liquidity. When the top ten wallets control a huge slice of supply, especially fresh wallets funded from the same source, you are likely looking at a bundled launch where insiders sit on the bags. Check whether LP tokens are burned or locked; unlocked liquidity means the deployer can pull the pool and leave you holding a token with no market.

Then watch the dev wallet. Did the creator snipe their own launch? Are they quietly distributing to dozens of side wallets? Have they deployed and abandoned a string of tokens before? Serial deployers rarely change their playbook. Pair that with socials: a brand-new X account, a Telegram with comments disabled, and paid shills with zero organic engagement are classic setups.

None of these checks is a guarantee, but stacking them filters out the obvious traps and keeps your capital alive for the plays that actually have legs.

As with all meme coins, exercise caution — these assets carry significant risk.
