How to Spot a Solana Rug Pull Before It Happens

By Alphacino Editorial Team ·

Quick Take

Most Solana rugs leave fingerprints on-chain before they pull, and you can learn to read them in under a minute.

Rug pulls on Solana rarely come out of nowhere. The chart looks great right up until the moment it goes vertical the wrong way, but the warning signs were usually sitting on-chain the whole time. Here's what to check before you ape.

Start with authorities. If the token's mint authority is still active, the dev can print unlimited supply and dump it on you. If freeze authority is live, they can freeze your wallet so you can't sell at all. On a legit launch both should be revoked. pump.fun tokens handle this by default, but tokens launched elsewhere often don't, so always check.

Next, holder concentration. Open the top holders list. If a handful of fresh wallets control 20%, 30% or more of supply, especially wallets funded from the same source minutes before launch, you're probably looking at a bundled launch. Bundlers buy a big chunk of supply across dozens of wallets to fake an organic distribution, then sell into your buys. Wallets with identical buy sizes and timestamps are the giveaway.

Then look at liquidity. For tokens that graduated to a DEX, check whether the LP is burned or locked. Unlocked liquidity means the deployer can pull the pool and leave holders with a token nobody can sell. Also watch the dev wallet itself: a dev who sells in the first few minutes, or who has a history of launching and abandoning tokens, is telling you exactly what they plan to do.

Finally, trust your gut on the socials. Brand-new Twitter accounts, bot-filled Telegram groups and wildly overhyped promises are classic setups. None of these checks is a guarantee, but running all of them will filter out most of the obvious traps.
