Rug pulls are the tax the Solana trenches charge the careless. The good news: most rugs aren't sophisticated. They leave fingerprints on-chain, and a two-minute check before you buy can save you from being exit liquidity.
Start with authorities. If a token still has mint authority enabled, the dev can print new supply whenever they want and dump it on you. If freeze authority is live, they can lock your tokens in your wallet so you can't sell. On a legit meme coin both should be revoked. This is non-negotiable — if either is active, walk away.
Next, check holder concentration. Pull up the top holders list and ignore the liquidity pool and known burn addresses. If a handful of wallets control a big slice of supply, you're trading against them. Watch especially for clusters of fresh wallets that were all funded from the same source right before launch — that's a bundled launch, and those bags are usually waiting for your buy to hit before they sell.
Then look at liquidity. For tokens that graduated to Raydium or another DEX, is the LP burned or locked? Unlocked liquidity means the deployer can pull the pool and leave the chart at zero. Also sanity-check the ratio: a big market cap sitting on paper-thin liquidity means even modest sells will crater the price.
Finally, read the vibe honestly. A dev wallet that keeps moving tokens, socials created yesterday, a website that's a template with no substance, and a Telegram where questions get deleted — none of these prove a rug alone, but stacked together they're a loud warning. No single check makes a coin safe; the point is to stack the odds so you only take risks worth taking.
