Rug pulls aren't random — they leave fingerprints on-chain before they happen, and the traders who avoid them are the ones who actually check.

Start with mint authority. If a token's mint authority hasn't been revoked, the deployer can print unlimited new supply whenever they want, instantly diluting every holder to zero. This is checkable in seconds on any Solana explorer or scanner, and it should be a hard no if it's still active. Same goes for freeze authority — if it's live, the deployer can literally freeze your wallet's ability to sell while they cash out theirs.

Next, look at holder concentration. If the top 10 wallets control more than 20-30% of supply outside of the liquidity pool, that's a small group who can crash the price the moment they decide to exit together. Tools that break down holder distribution are table stakes before any buy — a clean, spread-out holder base is one of the strongest signs a token isn't a coordinated setup.

Liquidity itself matters just as much. Check whether LP tokens are burned or locked. Unlocked LP means the deployer can pull the entire pool out from under buyers at any moment — the single most common rug mechanic there is. Pair that with sudden, unexplained volume spikes right after launch — often bot-driven — and you've got the classic rug setup: hype first, exit liquidity second.

None of this is a guarantee. Sophisticated scammers work around checklists too. But stacking these checks — mint/freeze authority, holder spread, LP lock status — before you buy turns a coin-flip into an actual filter, and that discipline is the difference between surviving this market and becoming next week's cautionary screenshot.
