Most Solana rugs give off warning signs days before the liquidity disappears — you just have to know where to look.
Rug pulls are the tax everyone pays for playing in the Solana meme coin sandbox eventually. But most rugs aren't invisible — they leave fingerprints before the liquidity vanishes, and learning to read them is the single highest-leverage skill a meme coin trader can develop.
Start with liquidity. On a graduated token, check whether LP tokens are actually locked or burned — if the deployer can pull liquidity at will, that's not a maybe, that's a when. Tools that show LP lock status are non-negotiable before sizing into anything past the pump.fun curve stage. If you can't verify the lock, treat the token as unlocked until proven otherwise.
Next, holder concentration. Pull up the top holders and look for one or two wallets sitting on double-digit percentages of supply outside of the LP itself. A healthy distribution spreads across hundreds of wallets; a rug candidate often has the deployer wallet, or a cluster of connected wallets, holding enough to crash the chart the moment they decide to sell. Bundled wallets — multiple addresses that bought in the same block from the same funding source — are one of the clearest tells of an insider setup.
Then there's behavior. Deployers who go quiet right after launch, delete their Twitter, or never engage with their own community after the initial hype push are showing you exactly what they think of the project's future. Compare that to teams that keep posting, keep building, and keep talking to holders even after the initial pump fades — that's not proof of legitimacy, but its absence is a real warning sign.
None of these checks guarantee safety — nothing does in a market where anyone can deploy a token in seconds. But stacking liquidity checks, holder distribution, and deployer behavior together turns a coin flip into an actual filter, and that's the difference between degen gambling and degen trading.
