How to Spot a Solana Rug Pull Before It Happens

Most rug pulls don't come out of nowhere. They flash warning signs for minutes or hours before the liquidity actually vanishes — the problem is most traders don't know what to look for until it's too late.

Start with liquidity itself. Open the token on Solscan or DexScreener and check whether the LP tokens are locked or burned. If the deployer wallet can pull liquidity whenever it wants, that's the single biggest red flag on Solana — no lock means the floor can disappear in one transaction. Pump.fun tokens that haven't graduated to Raydium are a different case: liquidity there is bonded to the curve itself, which is part of why the platform exists, but the same scrutiny applies the moment a coin migrates.

Next, check holder concentration. Pull up the top holders list and look for one or two wallets sitting on 15%, 20%, even 40% of supply outside of the locked LP. That's a coordinated dump waiting to happen. Healthy distributions spread supply across hundreds of wallets within the first day of trading.

Watch the deployer's history too. A quick look at the wallet that created the contract will often show a trail of other tokens it launched — and whether those charts all end in the same straight line down to zero. Serial ruggers reuse wallets constantly because spinning up a new one costs nothing.

Finally, pay attention to social behavior. A coin with a locked Telegram, no admin responses, and a Twitter account created the same day as the token is far riskier than one with an active, arguing, occasionally chaotic community — genuine communities don't stay quiet.

None of these checks are foolproof alone, but stacked together they catch the majority of rugs before the liquidity pull happens.
